How do you choose the right size dog sock?
A dog sock that doesn't fit properly will fall off after two steps or be too tight and constrictive. Choosing the right size is therefore essential. At Dog Socky, we measure differently from most brands: not the ankle or the cuff, but the width of the splayed paw print.
Why paw width and not the ankle?
Many brand guides ask for the circumference of the ankle or paw. That sounds logical, but in practice it causes problems: the cuff can be too tight on a wide paw or too loose on a narrow ankle. By measuring at the widest point of the paw print, with the paw flat on the ground, you get a much more reliable fit.
How to measure paw width
- Place a white sheet of paper on the floor.
- Have your dog stand calmly on it with their full weight on the paw.
- Lightly trace the outline of the paw print with a pencil.
- Measure the widest width of the print in centimeters.

Tips for a good fit
- Measure all four paws, as not all paws are the same size.
- If you are in doubt between two sizes? Choose the larger size.
- The socks close with an elastic velcro strap, so they will stay on well even if the sock is a bit looser.
