Why wear Dog Socky anti-slip dog socks?

You notice it right away. That little hesitation before the tiled floor or the parquet. Your dog looks, hesitates for a moment and only then carefully takes a first step. He used to do that without thinking.

From around 7 years, many dogs have more difficulty with slippery floors and stairs. Getting up becomes harder, the steps get smaller. With arthritis or hip dysplasia, every misstep can put extra pressure on muscles and joints.

Dog Socky anti-slip dog socks give your dog extra grip and stability on tiles, parquet and laminate. This way he can move with more confidence again and stay active longer.

And when your big friend walks back into the kitchen without hesitating for the first time, you'll notice the difference too.

Dog Socky helps with sensitive or painful paws, excessive paw licking and recovery after surgery.

How do you put the socks on?

Ready in 3 easy steps for extra confidence, stability and fun.

Stap 1: Rol de sok op – houd de opening wijd zodat de poot er gemakkelijk in glijdt

Roll up the sock

Roll the sock up halfway so you can easily slide it over the paw. Keep the top wide open.

Stap 1: Rol de sok op en schuif over de poot

Slide over the paw

Let the paw slide into the sock and gently pull the sock up so the entire paw sits in the foot section.

Stap 2: Trek de sok omhoog tot aan de enkel

Fasten the strap

Fasten the elastic strap. Check that the sock isn't too tight: one finger should fit easily underneath.

What do our customers say?

“Luca takes the stairs by himself again”

Luca is a 14-year-old Polish mountain dog weighing 41 kg. In recent years he's increasingly suffered from age-related issues: stiff joints, slipping on the floor, and the stairs had been a bridge too far for months. We helped him up and down every time, but at our age that's no longer ideal either. Friends had had Dog Socky for a while and recommended it. The first two days were clearly an adjustment: he kept trying to take the socks off himself and walked a bit oddly. But on day three something seemed to click. He started walking more and regaining confidence with every step. Yesterday morning we heard him coming up the stairs. By himself. Without us helping him. He was standing at the bedroom door. We know socks aren't a miracle cure and that he's 14. But the grip gives him confidence in his own body and we see a part of the old playful Luca returning.

“Good for short-term indoor use, but not very durable”

We bought these socks for our golden retriever after having our wooden floor sanded. The contractor recommended having the dog wear socks for at least 30 days while the coating cured. After four weeks of daily use, we know enough. They're easy to put on. The material stretches, the grips are all around so there's no "right side," and the elastic strap is sewn onto the sock itself. So no loose strip to lose. We'd tried molded dog shoes before and noticed that our dog's hind paws are a full size smaller than the front paws. Those kept falling off. That's not the case here. The strap also faces inward, so it sticks to the sock instead of the carpet. With other brands the sock comes loose as soon as the dog lies down. The grip on the smooth floor was good and the nails didn't touch the wood. But the socks are fragile. The bottom part wears out quickly, even with purely indoor use. The dog's nails poke holes from the inside, even after trimming. If the dog briefly gnaws at its paw, which dogs do, the sock is ruined without them really being worn out. We spray bitter apple spray on the socks, but for four socks you need a fair amount each time. The packaging also says they shouldn't be used outside. Our dog briefly escaped from the garage and walked on the asphalt for a few minutes. Two socks were completely ruined before I could catch her. In four weeks we went through 3 sets. For a one-off 30-day period that's still doable, but if you plan to have your dog wear socks structurally, this quickly becomes unaffordable. For short-term indoor use they deliver more than they promise. For longer outdoor use I'd keep looking.

“Approved by my Welsh Terrier”

Bought for my almost 15-year-old Welsh Terrier. We have polished concrete floors at home and noticed he was starting to slip a bit and moved less confidently. I expected him to hate the socks, since he won't tolerate any piece of clothing I try to put on him, but he has no trouble with them at all. He literally ran through the whole house to try them out, turns and all. Size M fits perfectly.

“Great customer service”

My 10-year-old golden retriever has arthritis and constantly slips on the parquet in the living room. We first ordered size M, but they were too tight around his hind paws. Customer service sent a size up for free. Indoors they're perfect. But after 2 weeks of also romping outside in the woods, we saw the first wear on the 2 socks on the hind paws. For indoor use they're great; for rough outdoor use they probably won't last forever. Hopefully they'll hold up for a while longer.

“Good quality socks with perfect grip on smooth floors.”

The best dog socks there are. My 12-year-old husky finally has grip on the smooth floor without any risk of slipping. When he's wearing them, I no longer have to worry about him falling.

“My dog loves these socks”

Top product! I can't believe I didn't find this sooner. I have a 13-year-old senior dog with arthritis who slipped on the wooden floor when playing. As soon as I put these socks on, he seemed like a new dog. They stay in place well and he seems much more confident running after his toys without slipping. Safer for him. He lets me put them on without any problem. 4 stars, because the top is quite tight, which makes putting them on a bit harder. Otherwise a great product.

What does the science say?

Dog Socky is not a medicine. But the science is clear about why grip matters for senior dogs and dogs with joint problems.

  • 🦴

Joint problems are the rule rather than the exception in senior dogs

Dogs older than 8 years and larger breeds (Labrador, Golden Retriever, shepherd, Rottweiler) have a clearly increased risk of osteoarthritis.

    Anderson et al., 2018
  • 🪵

Smooth floors are a recognised risk factor for the joints

In a multi-year study of large breeds, puppies with access to smooth floors and stairs were more likely to develop hip dysplasia. Moving on soft, uneven surfaces was actually protective.

    Krontveit et al., 2012
  • 🩺

Vets themselves recommend a non-slip floor

The international consensus guideline for treating osteoarthritis in dogs explicitly names non-slip floors as a core part of the at-home approach.

    Cachon et al. (COAST), 2023
  • 🏡

Adapting the environment works, alongside weight and exercise

A scientific review confirms that non-pharmaceutical measures (weight, controlled exercise and the environment) play a proven role in managing osteoarthritis.

    Pye et al., 2024
The bottom line
Senior dogs and dogs with joint problems need grip, smooth floors work against them, and that is exactly why vets recommend a safe non-slip floor. Dog Socky gives your dog that grip right under the paws, without having to fill your whole house with mats and rugs.

Dog Socky is a comfort aid, not a medical treatment. None of the studies below examined Dog Socky itself; they support why grip and a safe surface matter for dogs with joint problems. In case of doubt or persistent pain: always consult your vet.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you want to know, short and clear.

Each Dog Socky pack contains 4 socks, 1 for each paw.

Tip: order 2 packs so you can alternate. While one set is drying after washing, the other is ready to use.

Use the size calculator, in 30 seconds you'll know for sure. Choose the breed, enter the weight and you'll get the right size right away.

Prefer to measure yourself? Measure the width of the paw print while your dog is standing, from edge to edge at the widest point.

Not with Dog Socky. 2 mechanisms keep the sock in place: the elastic strap you adjust yourself and the double-sided silicone grip. Does the sock rotate while walking? You still have grip, because the top also has the anti-slip pattern. With the right size, the socks easily stay in place for 8 hours.

Completely normal. Dogs steer themselves through their paw pads. As soon as that feedback comes in a little differently, they lift their paws higher or pause for a moment. Most dogs adjust within 3 to 7 wearing sessions.

Combine putting them on with a walk or game so they're distracted.

They're made for dogs that slip on smooth floors: parquet, tiles, laminate and vinyl. Particularly effective for older dogs with arthritis or hip dysplasia, dogs in rehabilitation and dogs that need extra paw protection after surgery or from excessive licking.

Also useful for healthy large breeds that slide on smooth floors due to their weight.

Yes. Older dogs with hip dysplasia or arthritis slip on smooth floors with every step, which puts extra strain on the joints and worsens the pain. Dog Socky's grip reduces that slipping and the compensating movement that comes with it.

It is not a medical treatment and doesn't replace a vet or physiotherapist, but as a daily comfort improvement at home it's one of the most practical aids you can use. Many vets recommend anti-slip socks as a first step.

Most dogs are used to the socks after 3 to 7 wearing sessions. Start with 5 minutes a day combined with rewards and build up gradually. Anxious, insecure and stress-sensitive dogs sometimes need 2 to 3 weeks.

Never take the socks off in response to protest. Calmly remove them after the planned moment.

Yes. Send an email to info@dogsocky.com and we'll arrange a free exchange, provided the socks are unworn and in the original packaging.

Unsure before buying? Send a photo of the measured paw print and we'll help you choose the right size.
